The Florida cooter, scientifically known as Pseudemys floridana, is a species of freshwater turtle native to the southeastern United States, particularly in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina.
Adults can grow to a carapace length of about 12 to 16 inches (30-41 cm), with females being larger than males. Florida cooters are primarily herbivorous, feeding on aquatic plants, algae, and occasionally insects and small invertebrates.
Florida cooters can have a relatively long lifespan, with individuals in the wild living several decades.
